On Wednesday July 13th 2011 Malcom Archer gave the first performance of his Lancaster Suite on the 1909 four manual Norman and Beard organ in the Ashton Hall, Lancaster.
Malcolm Archer (b. 1952), who is Director of Music at Winchester College, is well-known as a composer with more than 200 publications to his credit. This new organ work was commissioned by the Ashton Hall Organ Restoration Project (AHORP) and is an extremely attractive suite in five movements:
Duchy Fanfare and March
Pastorale - The Trough of Bowland
John o'Gaunt Gigue
Claire de 'Lune'
Centenary Toccata (AD2010)
All the proceeds from the sale of this most attractive work will be given to the ongoing restoration work on the Ashton Hall organ. Copies are obtainable from the Chairman of AHORP:
